A South African educational programme which teaches teenagers maritime skills, while they are still at school, has been shortlisted for an
international award.
The programme has improved the employment prospects of hundreds of young South Africans leaving school each year and addresses youth unemployment and poverty, one of South Africa’s most pressing issues. The Simon’s Town-based Lawhill Maritime Studies programme, shows the value of partnerships between the
private sector and educational institutions.
