Frugal Friday: Small changes can make an impact on energy

Small changes can have a huge impact on your savings and on the environment.

What of the following do you already do to save energy?
  • Turn off the mobile phone charger when not in use.
  • Turn off the microwave at the power - it uses power to run the digital display.
  • Turn off computers when not in use.
  • Change your computer's screen to energy saver.
  • Borrow books from your library instead of purchasing them.
  • Buy an energy efficient 5 star rating refrigerator when you need a new fridge.
  • Change to compact fluorescent globes.
  • Use heater on a low setting.
  • Only operate the dishwasher when it is full.
  • Take 3 minute showers instead of baths.
  • Switch off lights as you leave the room.
  • Use local shops instead of ones further away.
Do you have any other useful ideas to be frugal and help the environment? They seem to go hand in hand.

  1. We don't even have a fridge sucking power off the solar power we run on . We have a Kalgoolie safe. Have you heard of those?

    1. Ah! so you live in Australia too?? I have heard of a Kalgoolie safe but have not seen one for about 30 years when I lived out bush.
